Inspiration in an unlikely place

Clearly this week had been, well, difficult. With the children at their grandparents for the week I have some free time. On my way to drop them off and visit I came across an elderly woman at Base and had a lovely conversation with her.
That was until we were rudely interrupted by an eavesdropping woman. This woman, voiced her opinion on my husbands job, proceeded to insult both my husband and I. When she stormed off, the older woman said, "we'll isn't that a shame. A pretty lady like that being so rude when she didn't do any of the work. In my day we supported each other, because we were all hurting." I looked at her and all I could do was smile.

The older woman had got my wheels in motion. I thought, there are all these women in life who I look up to. Some are the strongest I know. So I stood there wondering, does anyone think that of me? Am I going to make an impression for the next generation? Will my children look up to me and be proud to say I am their mother? Then I realizes I already have.

Although I may not be said directly to me I am part of a whole. I am a military wife, and we are a strong person. We all go through the same things; they may vary and have their own unique twist but we all have the same hardships.

As spouses we do not wear that rank on our collars. We did not witness hell or experience the pain, We did not train, and bleed as they did. So do not act like you are better than the rest, because you are not. You are just like me. A wife on the home front. Fighting the EXACT same battle I am. This may be my tenth deployment or my first it does not matter, they are all hard; sometimes the first is the easiest.

When I married my husband my neighbor, who is an Army wife, told me'"you are one of us now, and we all bleed green."
Disbuite that her husband was an officer in the Army and mine a grunt in the Marine Corps I knew she was right.

We can all learn so much from each other. No matter the branch or rank, we can take knowledge from one another, show our support and lift each other up. We do not need to quarrel amongst ourselves. We can be the inspiring impression on the next generation, as the WWII women are to us. We can be strong and unite.
